Don’t hope for confidence. Train for it.

The Confidence Bank Account

Every time you ride XC, you are either topping up your horse's Confidence Bank Account or occasionally withdrawing from it.

Your aim is always to be filling that bank account.

This is not about quick fixes. It is about learning how to develop the kind of horse who understands the question, wants to answer it, and believes in the rider showing him the way.

After XC week

WHAT You will Walk Away With

By the end of XC Week, you’ll understand what your horse needs to become a safer, more confident XC partner and what you can do to help him develop. You will know how to:

01
Recognise and train the five things you need to be safe XC and go clear
02
Identify what may be behind stops, run-outs and problems at ditches, water, steps and banks.
03
Make better decisions when riding a lazy, strong or unbalanced horse.
04
Train your horse to look for the fence, hold his line and think for himself.
05
Continue building your horse’s confidence throughout the season.
That is the heart of XC Week.

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what to train, why it matters and how to help your horse approach his job with greater confidence.

Grassroots to international

Who it's for

Who XC Week is for

XC Week is for riders who want to become a clear, fair and consistent XC mentor to their horse. A rider who develops feel and instinct, and keeps their horse’s best interests at the forefront. It is for you if:

  • you want your horse to grow in confidence, not just complete a course
  • you want to train XC in a more progressive manner
  • you want your horse to look for the fence and understand the question
  • you want to improve your engine, line, balance, gear changing and directional accuracy
  • you want your horse to think for himself without you dominating every stride
  • you have a young or green horse and want to give him the right start
  • you are moving up a level and want to protect and grow your horse's trust in you
  • you are a competitor but want to raise your game
  • you want to understand Lucinda's way of creating a true XC horse

XC Week is not just for riders who have a problem. It is for riders who care about how their horse's trust is being developed.

Genuine thank you to Lucinda & the Academy
I just wanted to say a huge, huge, huge personal thank you to Lucinda (I hope she reads this) for all of the help in the Academy and making it so accessible to lower level riders. I did my first ever ODE with my 8 year old mare Zara on Saturday at Munstead in Surrey. The heavens opened just as I started my dressage and didn’t stop until after we finished competing. We were also the last competitor of the day which was tough as, for example, everyone had left when we went into the dressage arena so my mare was rather lonely and made it known. When it came to SJ and then the XC, other competitors started withdrawing because of the torrential rain. I thought about it but felt the XC course there is pretty good going with lots of sand and I had Lucinda in my ear with all the rough ground training, them finding their feet, etc. Of course I would never have risked Zara if I thought the ground was impossible (and I’m not saying that Lucinda would say to run xc no matter what the weather) but it’s about striking a balance and I had the confidence in our training and Lucinda’s no nonsense, get on with it approach in my mind so we gave it a go (with a back up plan that if I wasn’t confident out on the course or I felt it was too slippery then I could always retire). We were ever so slightly slow as when I tried to push her to gallop in-between fences, she wasn’t 100% sure so I listened to her but pushed when I felt I could… …we were 10 seconds over the optimum time but still went on and won the class!!!!!! I cried tears of joy, not that you could tell as I was drenched to the bone – what a fantastic mare. But a genuine thank you to Lucinda and the academy for getting me through this – I have no doubt that the academy helped hugely in this achievement, with the physical exercises but, more importantly, the principles that underpin the XC training.

Thank you wonderful Academy community
Two years ago Sox and I went to the inaugural LGXC camp at Tweseldown, first time there, starting off just doing some bits and bobs in trot, with everyone’s help slowly building confidence, at the beginning I was a bit overwhelmed to be there. Two years later and it was great to be back at the Tweseldown camp. The weekend before Sox and I won the 70 individual at Munstead Hunter Trials and I am still on cloud 9 . Being back at Tweseldown made me look back, what a journey we’ve had over those two years! Thank you wonderful Academy community, Rachael Faulkner, Diana Burgess Equestrian and all at Lucinda Green XC Academy Team, you’ve been amazing and I’m so grateful for all that we’ve learned and experienced xx

The Academy has been an inspiration
Thanks to the academy, I am inspired again to keep working and improving my riding and balance to help my horse. we may not event again together but McGraw can help me keep improving myself for the next event horse in the future. Lucky for me, McGraw with good management can still do small Su and dressage…Thank you again Lucinda and Rachael for this amazing Academy that continues to help me with confidence Mentally and Physically..

I am so much more confident!
Zazu & I won the 100cm Eventer’s Challenge at Tweseldown last Wed. I had to share to tell you how far we’ve come since joining the Academy 2 yrs ago. We went to the very 1st xc camp. On the last day I wasn’t confident enough to go around the full 80 course on my own so Rachael Faulkner very kindly rode around with me. We missed out the more difficult jumps & I had several stops. I’d also fallen off the day before! I also fell off at the next clinic we did at Tweseldown! (I was very lucky that Lucinda herself was there & she gave me a 5 minute 1 on 1 to correct my lower leg position, making it more stable!!). Fast forward 2 yrs..another xc camp, clinics, Academy talks…I am so much more confident! Learning to sit up, look up & slip my reins, especially going over a downhill jump has made all the difference! And keeping a straight line to the jumps. Zazu definitely gets his confidence from me hugging his sides with my legs & keeping him in ‘the tunnel. Still working on my position, but I certainly never thought we would be going over the 100 xc course at Twesel! Still buzzing!

The LG academy is amazing
The LG academy is amazing – it’s not just about improving your riding but also about forming a community of like-minded people who all share the same passion. There is so much support and the video learning is amazing. Next season I am determined to make it to a LG camp. There are so many amazing contributors too and the group experts and the team are fantastic. I would highly recommend for anyone who is horsey – particularly if your interest is in XC but a lot of the skills taught apply to other disciplines. Lucinda has been one of my personal heroes since I was a young girl so it is a privilege to learn from her. Rachel is also amazing and so nice, everyone on the team are lovely. I hope the Academy continues to grow and inspire for years to come ❤️

Just Brilliant…
Just brilliant to get advice from somebody with Lucinda Green’s record of excellence who has proven herself over and over and over again. The way the course is set out is great. Videos are short and to the point and stuffed full of tips and advice that have made a huge difference to my confidence and mindset and given me a framework to build the training of my horse on, so that she can build confidence as well! When horse and rider are both lacking confidence, as we have been, then progress is always going to be lacking, but when horse and rider find they can build confidence, then it feels as though the possibilities are out there! I am so pleased that I signed up!

Thanks Academy
I am 62 and started the Academy a few years ago. I did the Ready for Trouble and the See a Stride challenge to help me move up from trotting to cantering my 2’3″ jumps. The monthly exercises helped me build my confidence and competence. We had a few fourth and seventh places in our events here in the U.S because our dressage isn’t as strong then I was a little slow in the show. Jumping and cross-country. We just got our first place and ended on our dressage score. Came in eight seconds ahead of time on cross country, even though I slowed him down to school him, he tends to forget his whoa button! Thanks, Academy.

Green for the Win
Last year (2023) I lost my trainer and was on my own with a new, young horse. I stumbled upon Lucinda’s community and signed up for her Green Print academy. I learned so much over the course of the year, not only from a riding perspective but how to help my young horse and I learn new things together. I realized very early on that I did NOT have a ready for trouble seat and quickly adjusted my position. This was the single best skill to help me feel more confident and comfortable riding out-and stay on my horse! There are so many other useful tips, strategies and tricks that I learned that have all helped us on our XC journey.

The Lucinda Green XC Academy is truly unique
I joined the Lucinda Green XC Academy for instruction in cross country riding after becoming disenchanted with several other online programs that offered nothing besides a video library. I was pleasantly surprised to find so much more from Lucinda, including weekly interactive discussions via Zoom with Lucinda and other upper level riders and experts in related fields, from training principles to choosing tack to sports psychology; a progressive and interactive video program of Lucinda’s Greenprint principles of safer and more successful xc riding and training; and formal and informal feedback from Lucinda on every topic imaginable related to eventing. The other bonus is an entire support network of other members from all over the world, of different levels, abilities, and ambition, who celebrate or commiserate with you (depending on the day!) I’m even getting in better physical shape thanks to various challenges developed by qualified fitness instructors! I now feel like I have a program of training for myself and my horse that I can have confidence in, and a place to get help when I’m not sure of something. I’m not aware of any other online riding program that can provide this degree of personal instruction. It’s truly unique.

Lucinda’s Academy has been so…
Lucinda’s Academy has been so fascinating, enlightening and educational. We are so lucky that she is so passionate about both her mission and dedication to the Academy. Lucinda has so many endless pearls of wisdom herself in every webinar and she also so many great world class names and contacts in different fields of expertise she calls on for diverse wonderful interviews and advice. I didn’t enrol for the very first intake as initially on the surface (without investigating further) I thought the Academy was a fairly meaty investment, particularly as I was already a member of a prominent eventing trainer’s online members group too. However after becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of content, repetitiveness and lack of quality of the other member’s group, I decided to take the plunge to cancel that subscription and enrol in Lucinda’s Academy. I love it and have learnt so much and haven’t remotely regretted my decision once! So much better value for money for the wonderfully diverse quality of expertise and content. Even better too when you have access to the whole Academy back catalogue in the “Hub”! I would recommend the Academy to anybody who enjoys improving both themselves with their riding and their horse, and also their competition management and knowledge. Thank you so much Lucinda and Rachel!

Fantastic! Keep it up!
I signed up to the LG XC academy in Feb 2021, because Lucinda resonated with me as being a true teacher i.e. someone that has been able to learn how to convert vastly complex topics into simple concepts, a difficult voyage into simple next steps, and steer you on to the right path on your long journey of continuous improvement with our wonderful horses. My expectations have been fulfilled! It’s a lovely group of like-minded riders from all over the world, all with friendly and supporting attitudes. Since joining the Academy I have become much more focused in my own strength and fitness. I have become a much better rider and lost over 10 kg in weight. Whilst I have not yet actually evented, I have ridden to advanced level in Working Equitation (another multi-phased sport) and have since come to realise that cross country riding probably always was my biggest calling. So, after a year of learning the foundations from an expert, 2022 will be my breakthrough year! The Academy has also helped me with the training of my youngster, who is now backed and looking forward to his first XC schooling session. The group has also helped me through a very difficult few months when I unexpectedly and devastatingly lost my main horse and had to get through various other dramas including concussion from a bad fall, recurrent colic and a horse standing on three legs after an accident during turnout.

The most amazing group
The most amazing group of like minded people, following the advice of the wonderful Lucinda and her super relented guests. Personally it is the best thing I did last year and even though eventing is difficult where I live the advice transfers to the other disciplines.

Within 6 months of joining the Academy we regained our MERs.
Within 6 months of joining The Academy we had regained our MER and had our best result ever at a higher level. I would never have believed virtual coaching would have such a huge effect on our results. The exercises demonstrated are pure cross country gold. On top of which listening to Lucinda debate a variety of equestrian topics with the elite of the sport is both fascinating and educational especially when there are differing opinions and techniques under discussion.

Love it!
I joined the XC Academy when it first started and have loved it! I have been able to keep up with the lessons on my own time as my schedule doesn’t always allow for me to tune in to the scheduled live zooms. I listen to them while I feed, ride, shop, drive, etc. It has really helped to keep me mentally sharp and prepared for competitions. Lucinda’s passion for teaching is so evident and she has such wonderful guests on the zoom meetings. Having the academy community has also been wonderful! We share each other’s triumphs and struggles. At a recent Lucinda clinic I was able to meet several academy members and we had a lovely time as if we had known each other for years.

Joining was my best decision of 2021
This is an amazing insite into xc riding. The interviews are so helpful and easy to listen to whenever and wherever you are as you can download them. So refreshingly achievable with top tips and plans. The community spirit amongst the members is second to none, with help and support at every step of the way. I love the green print and I find Lucinda amazing and fascinating. I will remain a member for ever!

JOIN!
Joining the Academy will be the best money you spend on yourself and your horse. The value is incredible – 4 sessions every month, each of the highest quality of content including the Q&A EVERY MONTH with Lucinda herself. If you cannot make the live sessions, everything is filed in the Members Hub for you to dip into when you have the time, and to re-watch for reminders and more inspiration. Maybe the un-anticipated bonus of the On-Line Group is the supportive community that now exists between the members – everyone has a story that someone can relate to. Join! You will not regret it!

This group is extra special!
This group is extra special! Lucinda and Rachael are incredibly informative and supportive. I really look forward to the webinars which are really friendly with direct access to legends of our sport! Sometimes I need to pinch myself as it feels like we are all sitting around a superstar’s kitchen table having a chat! Couldn’t recommend it more highly.

An Oldie’s view – something for everyone!
I joined the Academy on the first intake and am so glad I did! I no longer ride regularly (aged 70) but have a daughter and granddaughter who do so this gives me a chance to stay involved in the xc world. I believe the skill of safe cross country riding is vital to the future of both eventing and hunting. I fence judge at unaffiliated events and feel the Academy has so much to offer to many competitors. Above everything, it is fun to be a member and Lucinda is inspirational.

Priceless
Lucinda’s infinite insights into cross country, both riding and how horses learn, along with her thirst to continue expanding her (and our) knowledge is something every rider can benefit from! Becoming privy to even a tiny morsel of her wisdom is a priceless privilege ! I’m eternally gratefully to her for sharing her passion as she has made me into the rider and horse trainer I am today. Thank you lucinda!

Fan!
Many of the members are long time Lucinda fans, I however had never heard of Lucinda (*I’ve never done eventing before). But following the academy’s exercises, the interviews, her books, you can’t not become a Lucinda fan. Sounds weird maybe, but I now realise I somehow saw my horses as a tool to practice my sport, I only now start to understand the true partnership, the division of tasks between rider and horse. As an extra the academy members form a fantastic support group. I love it!

Lucinda Green XC Academy Members
My daughter and I love being members of the Lucinda Green XC Academy. It’s wonderful that Lucinda passes down her invaluable knowledge and experience and my daughter gets an awful lot out of it. We also signed up for the XC Masterclass which is definitely well worth the money. If you haven’t joined Lucinda’s Academy already I would highly recommend it.
Lucinda Green

I am Lucinda Green

Again and again, I have seen that true XC confidence is not created by force. It is developed through trust, clarity, consistency and progressive training.

I was lucky enough to win at the very top of the sport, but the greatest lessons I have learned about horses did not only come from competing. They came from decades of teaching riders and horses all over the world.

That is why I created the Greenprint™. It is the foundation I return to whenever a horse or rider needs more confidence, more understanding, or a clearer way forward.

XC Week is your chance to spend five days with me looking at how to develop a horse who trusts you, looks for the fence, stays on his line, thinks for himself, grows in confidence and believes in you.

Five days, live with Lucinda

How the week works

You will be welcomed into the XC Week Community. You will receive your welcome video, simple tech instructions, guidance on how the week will work, the chance to introduce yourself to other XC riders, and instructions for uploading videos to be considered for video critique.

This develops trust, belief and clarity.

Discover the five essential foundations every horse-and-rider partnership needs for safer, more confident XC riding. And how you can train these at home on your own.

You’ll begin to understand why problems at fences often start before the approach and how progressive training can help your horse become more confident, capable and independent.

What should you do when your horse stops, runs out or loses confidence at a particular type of fence?

Lucinda will help you troubleshoot common problems involving:

Ditches

Water

Steps and banks

Stops and run-outs

Lazy or behind-the-leg horses

Strong or over-keen horses

Loss of line, balance or control

Rather than offering quick fixes, Lucinda will show you how to look for the reason behind the problem, identify which foundation may be missing and decide what to change in your training or riding.

Most XC problems are not random

Through video analysis Lucinda will show you how a horse uses his body when jumping and learn the most important thing you must do as a rider to allow him to do his job: jump and help keep you safe. We will also watch some examples of some incredible footwork to inspire us all on how incredible our horses are.

This day brings the previous days together.

Discover the exercises Lucinda uses to train the five things covered on Day 1, including the essential practice to use every time you jump to help avoid the dreaded awkward “chip” before the fence.
Lucinda will also give riders a clear plan for moving forward and invite them to continue their training inside the Academy.

Questions

FAQ

No. XC Week is not just about fixing problems. It is about elevating the way you already ride and train, so your horse’s confidence keeps growing rather than being chipped away.

XC Week is for riders who are already interested in XC and want to train more thoughtfully. It is perfect for grassroots riders, riders with young or green horses, riders moving up the levels, and riders who want to build a better XC partnership. We also have riders competing at the International Level.

No. You do not need to be out competing every weekend. But you should be interested in XC and want to understand how to prepare your horse properly for it.

There will be an opportunity to upload videos for possible critique. Not every video can be guaranteed a full critique, but selected videos will be used to teach the group, so everyone can learn from what Lucinda sees.

XC Week gives you the foundation and the shift in thinking. If you want continued support through planning, fitness, XC training, competing, reviewing, making the time, horse management, rules and expert guidance, you will be invited to continue inside the Lucinda Green XC Academy.
